Uptown Summer Series - 2018 & 2019

CHALLENGE

Uptown is the “main street” of University Circle and a vibrant residential, shopping, dining, and entertainment district.

In 2018, University Circle and Case Western Reserve University approached Axon Creative Agency to conceptualize and produce 14-weeks of summer programming for the Uptown District.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

Toby’s Plaza served as an anchor location for the events series, which consisted of weekly lunchtime concerts and outdoor fitness classes along with themed monthly special events. In 2019, the special events celebrated the 50th anniversaries of iconic moments locally and nationally - including Woodstock, Moon Landing, Cuyahoga River Fire, and the opening of moCa Cleveland. Additionally, we conceptualized and produced the popular “Dinner with Strangers” outdoor dining and networking event, along with the “Uptown Mini Golf & Ice Cream Social”, which serves as a summer kick-off. All events in the series are free and open to the public.

RESULTS

The series provided lively activation of public space while bringing together residents, workers, and visitors through dynamic engagement. The programming content was designed to reflect the interests of the diverse community and provided promotional and programming opportunities for University Circle merchants, cultural partners, and anchor institutions.
